I should like to nominate the Freermasons' Arms on Downshire Hill to be awarded ACV status. This huge site, with the largest pub garden in Hampstead, has been a pub since 1819. Historically, it was famed for hosting various pub games and it continues that tradition today hosting the London Skittle Club events when players from Hampstead, all over the capital and the suburbs gather to play in the in the cellar alley and the Club Committee meetings every Tuesday. Primarily a gastropub since various refurbishments, the pub is mostly the the preserve of the locals in the colder months. It is crowded with visitors in the Summer months and when the Fair comes to the Heath at Holiday weekends. Nevertheless, the pub is careful to ensure its neighbours are not troubled - clearing the front terrace by 9.30pm and the garden by 10.30pm. This pretty Hampstead landmark, on what could be viewed by other eyes as a "prime site", needs the protection of such an Order. Diane Chanteau
